Getting Started

Create an account

Run uvx forevervm signup or npx forevervm signup to receive a ForeverVM API token by email.

Log into the CLI

Run uvx forevervm login or npx forevervm login to log into your account.

Run some code

Run uvx forevervm repl or npx forevervm repl to open a Python REPL.

ForeverVM is still early, but we are eager for your feedback. A few things to know:

The APIs are evolving quickly. If you run into issues, make sure you are running the latest version of the client packages.
Don’t expect machines to last “forever” yet — we have some upcoming changes to the way we store state.
In general, treat this as a developer preview; talk to us before putting anything in production!
By default, assume that you are welcome to talk/tweet/post about ForeverVM (and what you’re building with it).
Please ask us lots of questions, even if they feel like dumb questions! Every question you have now is a question other users will wonder about, so it’s good signal for us. If you use Slack and we don’t already have a Slack Connect, contact paul@jamsocket.com to get one set up.
We haven’t set up PagerDuty yet, so uptime is best-effort. Feel free to poke us if you suspect that something is broken.

Currently, ForeverVM is capable of:

Running python expressions and statements
Importing a handful of common Python libraries (pandas, requests, numpy)
Making outgoing network requests (e.g. downloading files)
Writing to a /tmp filesystem (note that this may be erased between invocations, but will not be erased during an individual command)

If there are specific, public Python libraries that you would like to use (before arbitrary pypi imports are ready), let us know and we can add them.
